Pete DeComo a Finalist for E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year
Pete DeComo, CEO of Renal Solutions, has been named a finalist in the 2006 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards program in the Upstate New York and Western Pennsylvania region.  Award winners will be announced at a special 20th anniversary gala event on June 16th at the Hilton Hotel in Pittsburgh. Awards are given to entrepreneurs who have demonstrated excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance, and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. Green River Regional Educational Cooperative Partners with Carnegie Learning
Kentucky's Green River Regional Educational Cooperative has purchased Carnegie Learning's Professional Development services for the 2006/2007 school year. The two courses, Developing Mathematical Understanding for grades K-3, and Developing Algebraic Thinking for grades 4-8, elevate the quality and effecitveness of math instruction by helping instructors to teach the way research indicates that students actually learn.  Carnegie Learning's Professional Development will be extended to 160 K-8th grade math teachers in 31 Kentucky districts.  The purchase is made with funding from the Commonwalth's Department of Education.

Chicago Public Schools Purchases Cognitive Tutor
Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has purchased Carnegie Learning's Cognitive Tutor Bridge to Algebra and Algebra I curricula for seven Chicago High Schools as part of its high school transformation plan.  The purchase will be made with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which has dedicated $21 million to implementing major improvements in CPS curriculum and instruction.  For more details, read the full release on Carnegie Learning's website.

West Virginia Schools to Implement Cognitive Tutor®
Thanks to funding from the Benedum Foundation, 18 West Virginia Schools will implement Carnegie Learning's Algebra I curriculum. The five-year purchase includes the full Cognitive Tutor curriculum integrating interactive software sessions, textbooks, and student-centered classroom instruction and is supported by an ongoing professional development program. This serves as the third phase of a multi-phase initiative by the West Virginia Department of Education and the Benedum Foundation to address the need to improve high school math scores across the state.  Read more at www.carnegielearning.com.

Carnegie Learning Moves Into Portland
Carnegie Learning announced that Portland Public Schools has purchased the company's Cognitive Tutor Algebra I program for 12 city high schools.  The contract delivers a full curriculum that integrates interactive software sessions, textbooks, and student-centered classroom instruction supported by an ongoing professional development program. The Algebra I program was implemented in two high schools last year with strong results, leading to a phased expansion to 800 students and 12 schools.  Read more here.

FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital Finds Value in Tug
Two of Aethon's Tugs now roam the halls of FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in North Carolina, and a third is expected to arrive in the next few months.  The Tugs are the only robots of their kind in the state, and they've proven themselves to the staff as valuable assets -- delivering medications all over the hospital.  The robots can be tracked on a wall-mounted flat-screen monitor in the pharmacy department.  Each receiving department has its own drawer in the file cabinet which can only be unlocked by entering the proper code.  The Tugs primarily carry medications, but have the capacity to carry loads up to 400 pounds.

BodyMedia Extends Patent Portfolio
The United States Patent No. 7,020,508, entitled Apparatus for Detecting Human Physiological and Contextual Information, was awarded to BodyMedia on March 28, 2006, and covers fundamental elements of enabling medical-grade wearable body monitoring for free-living consumer and clinical applications.  The inventions covered in this broad patent "provide users with the ability to continuously monitor their bodies and obtain actionable feedback that can help them or others assess and ultimately improve their state of health," according to BodyMedia's Director of Intellectual Property, John Monocello.

Aethon Receives TTC Project Funding
The Technology Collaborative (TTC) a statewide economic development organization that supports the growth of Pennsylvania's world-class robotics, cyber-security and digital technologies industries, has allocated $2.3 million to twelve companies and one joint university/corporate team across Pennsylvania.  One of those companies was Aethon.  According to Aldo Zini, CEO of Aethon, the funding "will allow Aethon to more rapidly penetrate the healthcare delivery robot market, while providing useful base technology to regional autonomous mobile robot partners."
