Carnegie Learning Named School Improvement Partner for WVa
The state of West Virginia has selected Carnegie Learning as a comprehensive school improvement partner to help the state turn around underperforming schools. Twenty-seven schools in West Virginia are eligible to apply for a share of the state's $22 million in School Improvement funds. Districts receiving School Improvement funds agree to make significant changes to the school structure and school day. Carnegie Learning is an approved School Improvement Grant partner in the state of Hawaii and is working as a School Improvement partner in districts in Washington and Indiana. Florida Adopts Carnegie Learning as Core Math Materials
The Florida Department of Education has adopted Carnegie Learning Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II Textbooks and ancillary software as core mathematics instructional materials for use in Florida school districts through June 2016. Carnegie Learning Partners with TX School District
Carnegie Learning has partnered with Pawnee Independent School District in Texas to improve junior high math. The school district received a three-year Texas Education Agency (TEA) grant which includes professional development for teachers (given by Carnegie Learning) and 20 laptop computers equiped with Carnegie Learning software. Pawnee was the smallest of 9 school districts in Texas selected for the grant.

WV Teachers to Attend Carnegie Learning Math Academy
Teachers from Kanawha County School District, near Charleston, will participate in five days of intensive math content training delivered by Carnegie Learning. The program is part of Kanawha County Schools' 2010 professional development objective to help prepare students for high school mathematics. In addition to the five days of instruction, Carnegie Learning will deliver 40 days of In-Classroom Support following the course, providing one-on-one instruction to help teachers transfer instructional practices from the academy to the classroom. Carnegie Learning Wins $2.4 M Contract
Carnegie Learning has been awarded a $2.4 million contract from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to provide supplemental math instruction to more than 3,000 middle school students in the state. The 2-year program launches in fall 2010 and includes an extensive professional development component to provide 170 hours of training per teacher per year in math content and instructional methods. Indiana Adopts Carnegie Learning Custom Solution

Carnegie Learning Helps KY School District Achieve Highest Gains in State
Joshua Powell, Superintendent for Union County Public Schools in KY credits the implementation of Carnegie Learning Math Programs among the reform initiatives that resulted in significant improvement in student performance. Union County Public Schools' Kentucky district ranking rose from 161/175 to 87/175 over one year. Following a year of implementation of the Carnegie Learning curricula, end of year testing indicated a 13% increase from the year before in the number of students scoring proficient and distinguished, and a 10% drop in the number of student scoring novice in math. Carnegie Learning Receives Statewide NC Board of Education Approval

Carnegie Learning Partners with Georgia School for Curricula Development
Carnegie Learning is developing a new middle school Georgia math sequence in partnership with the Richmond County School System in Augusta. The three-year math program will include student textbooks, teacher materials and professional development programs, and will be implemented in the Richmond County School System in the 2010-2011 school year. Dothan City Schools Purchase Carnegie Learning Math Curricula
Dothan City Schools in Alabama purchased Carnegie Learning Bridge to Algebra and Algebra I Math Curricula Solutions for implementation this fall for nearly 1200 students in the District's four middle schools. The purchase was made with special allocation funds from the city of Dothan. TX School District Uses Stimulus Funds for Carnegie Learning Math Program
Crystal City Independent School District, southwest Texas, used American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds to purchase Carnegie Learning Professional Development programs for teachers and Math Curricula for the five elementary, middle and high schools in the district. Carnegie Learning Recommended by Utah State Office of Education
The Utah State Instructional Materials Commission has recommended Carnegie Learning's complete suite of middle and high school mathematics software and textbooks. Hamilton County & Carnegie Learning Develop 8th Grade Math Curriculuum
Hamilton County Schools in Chattanooga, TN has purchased a custom math textbook and software program developed in partnership with Carnegie Learning for use this fall. All 8th graders in Hamilton County schools will use either Carnegie Learning Tennessee Bridge to Algebra Grade 8 Mathematics or Carnegie Learning Algebra I. Hamilton County Schools also renewed the purchase of Carnegie Learning Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II Curricula for a fifth year in all 18 district high schools. The No Child Left Behind percentages of Hamilton County Schools' students scoring proficient or advanced in mathematics have increased for the third consecutive year, improving from 76% in 2007 to 89% in 2009. Deer Valley Unified School District to Implement Carnegie Learning Program
Carnegie Learning's Algebra I Curriculum will be implemented this fall in the Deer Valley Unified School District in Phoenix, AZ. Missouri District Implements Algebra Intervention Program
Carnegie Learning's Bridge to Algebra program will be implemented in St. Louis's Hazelwood School District starting this fall and running at least through 2014. Carnegie Learning Partners to Improve Math Instruction in Latin America

Carneige Learning Contributes to Improved FCAT Math Scores in Florida
According to a research report released by Carnegie Learning, Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) results in four Miami-Dade County charter high schools using Carnegie Learning Blended Math Solutions were 14-18% higher than the Miami-Dade County averages over three consecutive years. Specifically, the number of students Making Math Gains in these charter high schools exceeded the Miami-Dade County averages from 2005 through 2008. The Making Math Gains classification is a component of the FCAT, and the primary measure of student achievement of the Sunshine State Standards. Carnegie Learning Sees New Act as Beneficial to Higher Education
The College Opportunity and Affordability Act of 2008, aimed at managing the cost of post-secondary education, passed in the Senate last week by unanimous consent and now moves to the President for approval. Carnegie Learning Use Expands in Chicago

Hamilton County Renews Carnegie Learning Purchase
Hamilton County Tennessee Schools, serving the Chattanooga area, has renewed the purchase of Carnegie Learning Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II programs for the upcoming 2008-2009 academic year. Carnegie Learning's Algebra I program was originally purchased in 2001 as a pilot curriculum for three schools, and the district has since expanded implementation to serve as the core mathematics curricula at all 16 high schools and 22 middle schools in the district. Sales Jump at Carnegie Learning
Carnegie Learning has logged a 40% increase in sales for its middle and high school software programs from the 2006-2007 to 2007-2008 school years. The increase comes as a result of schools using the company's products in supplemental intervention applications, providing students with a self-paced, individualized alternative to the traditional textbook approach to math. Cognitive Tutor Working in NYC
A recent story on WABC in New York brought to the forefront the success Carnegie Learning's Cognitive Tutor is helping to achieve at the High School for Health Professions and Human Services in Manhattan. Students who have failed ninth-grade math are using the program when they repeat the class. Assistant Principal for Math, Jeanette Tomasullo-Morelli, noted that in 2006 (before the program), only 20% of students repeating the class passed. By "June 2007, the percentage rate went up to 52%." Whitley County, KY Purchases Carnegie Learning Program
Whitley County School System in southeast Kentucky is adopting Carnegie Learning's Bridge to Algebra and Geometry programs to help improve math scores and graduation rates in the county. The $95,000 purchase was made with Federal Title I funds. Some Whitley County students are already using the Algebra I program as part of the nationwide study conducted by the RAND Corporation and funded by the US Department of Education, assessing the effectiveness of Carnegie Learning's Algebra I programs.

High School PSSA Scores Increase After Carnegie Learning Implementation
B. Reed Henderson High School, in the West Chester (PA) Area School District has reported significant gains in the school's 11th grade Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) math results, following the implementation of Carnegie Learning's math curricula. Overall, math proficiency rates have increased by 14% in the district over last year's test results. In June of this year, West Chester renewed its puchase of the full suite of Carnegie Learning math programs for all high schools and the Bridge to Algebra program for its three middle schools. San Diego Adopts Bridge to Algebra
As part of the San Diego Unified School District's (SDUSD) plan to improve Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in 11 middle and high schools, it has purchased Carnegie Learning's Cognitive Tutor Bridge to Algebra program. The $177,000 purchase is part of a Program Improvement plan supported by SDUSD's Education Technology and Mathematics Departments. AYP is an accountability system mandated by the Federal No Child Left Behind Act, which requires every state to ensure that all schools and districts make Adequate Yearly Progress. The San Diego schools include Kroc, Farb, Marston, Pacific Beach, Taft, Correia, Mann Expedition, Wilson and Clark Middle Schools, as well as Roosevelt and Bell Junior High Schools.

Louisana Expands Carnegie Learning Use
Thousands of students in Louisiana are using Carnegie Learning math solutions as part of two separate pilot programs studying the effectiveness of Carnegie Learning's research-based approach to math education. Hamilton County Tennessee School District has purchased additional Carnegie Learning curricula for the upcoming 2007-2008 school year. Entrepreneurial Funding Looking Up in Pittsburgh

33 Kentucky Schools to Participate in RAND Study
Kentucky is one of six regions/districts, including Houston (TX) Independent School District, selected to evaluate the effectiveness of Carnegie Learning's technology-based Algebra I curriculum as part of the $6 million US Department of Education-funded study being conducted by RAND Corporation. Rand Receives $6M to Evaluate Cognitive Tutor
The US Department of Education has awarded the RAND Corporation a $6 million grant to conduct a five-year study of the effectiveness of a technology-based mathematics curriculum created by Carnegie Learning. RAND researchers will examine the impact of Carnegie Learning's Cognitive Tutor Algebra I curriculum. The grant to RAND is the largest available under the Department of Education grant program for scientific assessment of academic courses. The study is part of a growing national trend to rigorously test educational programs using experimental methods, and is designed to further the evidence-base for mathematics instructional materials and practices. Carnegie Learning was selected for the study because its Algebra I program is one of a few math courses that meet the Department of Education's grant requirement for strong prior evidence of effectiveness.

Cognitive Tutor Receives Support Despite Federal Study
Despite a federal study that found no difference in academic achievement between students who use technology-based math products and those who don't, administrators at Everett School District in Washington are sticking with Carnegie Learning's Cognitive Tutor. Everett has used the high-school Cognitive Tutor program for two years, and so far, is very happy with the program. According to an article in the Everett, Washington Herald, one teacher has noticed larger gains on the Washington Assessment of Student Learning math exam among her Cognitive Tutor students than those in her traditional classroom. The federal report posted to the Education Department's web site on April 5th, was the first part of a 2 year study, commissioned in the No Child Left Behind Act.

Kentucky School Districts Adopt Bridge to Algebra
The Commonwealth of Kentucky's Green River Regional Educational Cooperative (GRREC) has purchased Carnegie Learning's Bridge to Algebra curriculum for seventh graders in seven districts. Tennessee County Doubles Cognitive Tutor Use

LAUSD Doubles Carnegie Learning Implementation
Los Angeles Unified School District has purchased Carnegie Learning's Bridge to Algebra curricula for several thousand additional eighth grade students following a milti-million dollar initial implementation of the company's algebra readiness curriculum in the 2005/06 school year. The value of the new contract is $1 million over three years and includes the Professional Development services for teachers. With the expanded contract, Carnegie Learning will be working to improve math performance for more than 36,000 Los Angeles middle and high school students this fall.

Green River Regional Educational Cooperative Partners with Carnegie Learning
Kentucky's Green River Regional Educational Cooperative has purchased Carnegie Learning's Professional Development services for the 2006/2007 school year. The two courses, Developing Mathematical Understanding for grades K-3, and Developing Algebraic Thinking for grades 4-8, elevate the quality and effecitveness of math instruction by helping instructors to teach the way research indicates that students actually learn. Carnegie Learning's Professional Development will be extended to 160 K-8th grade math teachers in 31 Kentucky districts. Chicago Public Schools Purchases Cognitive Tutor

Cognitive Tutor® Upgraded for 2006
Carnegie Learning has enhanced Cognitive Tutor and has released the 2006 versions of Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II curricula. The new Bridge to Algebra curriculum, released in February, is also developed on the new2006 platform. The 2006 release enhances the usability of the software by incoporating an updated user interface, online user assistance, updated Teacher's Toolkit including additional reports, a new Look Ahead/Look Back section, a glossary, new units of instruction and re-sequencing of software units. Tiger Woods Learning Center Implements Carnegie Learning ® Curricula

Cognitive Tutor® Goes to Maui
The Hawai'i Public Schools, in conjunction with the Maui Educational Consortium: Mathematics-Science Improvement Partnership Grant has purchased Carnegie Learning's math curricula for six schools on the islands of Maui and Molokai. The three-year grant will be rolled out in two phases, the first includes implementing Cognitive Tutor Algebra I curricula in four high schools, one middle school and the Maui Community College. Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency Expands Relationship with Carnegie Learning
After realizing compelling results from the earlier implementation of Carnegie Learning's Algebra I course, Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency (AEA) purchased the company's Geometry and Integrated Math curricula. Strong Scientific Evidence of Effectiveness for Cognitive Tutor®
The What Works Clearinghouse, a project of the US Department of Education, has just completed a review of middle school mathematics curricula — and has recognized Carnegie Learning's Cognitive Tutor® as having strong scientific evidence of effectiveness. Cognitive Tutor® Students Make Noted Gains
Results released from an independent study conducted during the 2002-03 school year showed that math students who used Carnegie Learning's software and text-based Cognitive Tutor® Algebra curricula in the Kent School District, made significantly higher knowledge gains than their peers who used the traditional text only curriculum. The study, led by researcher Dr. Gary Plano of Seton Hall University, involved 779 ninth grade students in seven junior high schools and one k-12 school in Kent, Washington. The results indicate that the Cognitive Tutor program produces knowledge gains for all students, most especially for students who struggle to learn English.

Cognitive Tutor Dramatically Increases FCAT Scores
An independent study has concluded that with the use of Cognitive Tutor, Algebra I students achieve higher FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test) scores than students in other Algebra programs. The study was funded by the Miami-Dade County Public Schools and shows statistically significant gains in scores for all Cognitive Tutor students, especially Exceptional Education Students (ESE) and Limited English Proficiency (LEP) students.

Carnegie Learning Wins Grant
Carnegie Learning, in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University and Worchester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), received a $1.4 million grant from the Institute for Education Sciences of the U.S. Department of Education.
