Home Dialysis Clinical Research Study Begins
Renal Solutions has announced that a home use clinical research trial using sorbent technology has begun. The study presents the opportunity for 25 dialysis particpants to evaluate the ability to self-administer extended duration dialysis in the home when using the Allient(R) Sorbent Hemodialysis System. In this study, the use of the Allient System in the home is an investigational use. Allient System Receives FDA 510(k) Clearance
Renal Solutions has received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration for its Allient(R) Sorbent Hemodialysis System in chronic and acute hemodialysis applications. The new system features improvements in ease of manufacturing, service and user-friendliness. In preparation for the Allient System commercialization, Renal is also launching its SMARRT(TM) platform and campaign, which will introduce the benefits of advanced sorbent therapy to the renal community. Renal Solutions Agrees to Make Wearable Artificial Kidney

Renal Solutions has reached a technology development agreement with Innovative BioTherapies to make a wearable artificial kidney.  The process will begin with Renal Solutions' marketing of a refrigerator-size unit in the 4th quarter of this year, which the companies then will work to miniaturize. Innovative BioTherapies president, Dr. H. David Humes, expects animal testing by the end of the year, and human testing to begin in five years. Entrepreneurial Funding Looking Up in Pittsburgh
In a recent article in the e-zine, Pop City, Pittsburgh venture capitalists spoke out about the future of entrepreneuship and venture funding in Pittsburgh. The article states that new companies received $230 million in investment dollars -- the largest growth in VC investment of any area in the country.  Don Jones believes that today's angels are helping to develop successful companies, who, in turn, help develop other successes.  "What we need is to reach a critical mass for the domino effect to be self-perpetuating. Donald W. Joseph Joins Renal Board
Donald W. Joseph has been appointed to the Board of Directors for Renal Solutions.  Renal is the exclusive provider of advanced sorbent hemodialysis products and services for treatment of patients with renal failure. Mr. Joseph is currently President & CEO of Sorbent Therapeutics, Inc., a company focused on solutions for patients with fluid balance deficiencies. Previously, Mr. Joseph served as Group Vice-President, Corporate Officer and CEO & President of Baxter's Global Renal Business. Mr. Joseph successfully led the strategic development, implementation and growth of Baxter, increasing revenuew from $20 million to $2 billion.

Renal Solutions Announces FDA 510(k) Clearance

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration has granted 501(k) clearance of the Allient Sorbent Hemodialysis System, including the SORB series and the HISORB series cartridges from Renal Solutions.  The FDA clearance of the Allient System addresses recent system enhancements which enable improved reliability and performance. The Allient System opens new treatment options to dialysis professionals and patients by virtue of its ability to provide short, standard or extended duration hemodialysis therapy using  just 1 1/2 gallons of ordinary dirinking water. This translates into increased transportability, flexibility and ease of system use.

Renal Solutions and T-Med Bring Sorbent Hemodialysis to the UK and Ireland
Renal Solutions has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with T-Med, a leading European distributor of medical, diagnostic and dialysis solutions, to have T-Med distribute the Allient® Sorbent Hemodialysis System in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The Allient technology will assist the UK National Health Services achieve its goal of increasing the percentage of patients who utilize home hemodialysis to 10-15% from its present level of under 2%. Renal Solutions Ready for Commercial Sales
With preliminary FDA approval in hand, the Pittsburgh Business Times reports that Renal Solutions is set to receive the first of its portable kidney dialysis system this week to begin testing to ensure they were built to the company's specifications. Insitutional sales to nursing homes and hospitals will begin over the next several months. Sales to the home user market will wait until further trials are run and final FDA approval is granted. The Company expects final approval for sale to home users early in 2006.
